Chromium picolinate has emerged as a product of choice for several different reasons. First, studies performed at the Ohio State University Department of Nutrition showed that chromium picolinate was absorbed better than competitor products (chromium nicotinate, chromium niacin amino acid chelate, and chromium chloride). Secondly, it may have a role in suppressing appetites and cravings, as well as building muscle and breaking down fat. Finally, chromium picolinate may help hinder the development of metabolic syndrome (diabetes). Studies are currently being performed to validate such claims. Also, President George W. Bush recently signed a bill insisting more chromium picolinate research be performed due to its claim of enhancing insulin sensitivity.
